Learn how to recreate the Energy Shield from the new Halo series in this Adobe After Effects tutorial video.

Halo: The Series

I can say with 100 % certainty that everybody knows or have heard about Halo: the video game. It is one of the most popular franchises ever, with Master Chief and Cortana as the main characters. To keep the story short, you are a soldier and you need to fight with aliens.

Now because the game is still so popular and making series or movies out of everything is even more popular. It was only a matter of time before Halo got his own series. And most of the time I’m sceptic about making a live action series from a game. But The Witcher changed my mind and gave hope for further projects. So I’m looking forward to seeing my childhood game becoming reality.

Visual Effects in Halo

Now of course we can’t start comparing the visual effects from the game with what we are trying to recreate. Games have this specific look and will almost never look realistic when you composite both together. And sadly in the latest trailer don’t see much, some glimpses here and there.

So that means we have to use a little bit of our imagination to recreate our visual effect. Now when seeing the trailer I can take guess and say that they used virtual production, just like the Mandalorian did. This is again something to look forward to, as Virtual Productions are getting better and better.

But what is a Virtual Production? Well it’s when the physical and digital world collide. It let’s you work on a stage with a virtual environment and / or characters, but shot with a physical camera. this gives you endless possibilities in the visual effects sector.
