3 Sci-Fi Effects from Rudy Mancuso in After Effects

Anybody fan of Black Mirror? Well we are, It’s a super good show. But sadly we aren’t doing any effects from it. Instead we are doing some effects from the next best thing. This week we saw a video in the trending list van Rudy Mancuso named Stories From Our Future. Apparently Netflix asked three big YouTube stars to make a homage to Black Mirror; Stories from Our Future. Rudy was one of the three YouTubers and he also directed all three video from the Stories From Our Future concept. The other two YouTubers are Lele Pons and Juanpa Zurita, which also had very cool videos. And because these videos are so good and similar to Black Mirror, we decided to recreate three futuristic effects from them.

Black Mirror Homage

The concept of the videos are quite simple, as they portray how life can be in the future. The video of Rudy is about AI friendship and love, which was done really good. And I must say, the special effects were superbly done. I definitely recommend watching the video if you like some Sci-Fi. The second video and the one from Lele Pons is a little bit darker. At first you get the feeling it’s going to be a love story in a VR world. But the mood quickly changes as it all becomes clear it’s a story about infidelity. And not to spoil the end, but there is a nice twist to it. Again you can see that influences of Black Mirror and the high quality details of the effects.

And the thing that makes the videos so strong is the story. Throughout the three videos there isn’t one dialogue, they tell the story purely with strong images and editing. Combine this with a strong story about maybe something relatable, like love and friendship, and you have yourself a good video. This is something that Black Mirror always does. They take a great story, with relatable content and use stunning cinematography to emphasize the story some more. This is what make Black Mirror so strong as a series. All their concepts can be real in the near future and can happen to all of us.
