When the summer starts and the sun is shinning bright, people tend to go out more. Road trips and holidays are just one car drive away. But what is you want to film your holiday ? How can you make a cool road trip movie? For this tutorial Jordy went specially on a holiday so he could make a video on how you can make creative shots in a car. He explains tips and tricks and shows us 27 creative shots he did in the car while Kim was driving.
First I want to say, when you are filming your road trip in the car. Never film while driving or interrupt the driver by blocking his/her’s view! Don’t risk your life!
With that said, here are some extra tips you can use all the time to make your footage more creative! This first tip is something we almost use every time, a foreground element. It’s a very basic tip, but i can’t stress it enough! A Foreground element will give you that extra depth. Also try to take a element that means something, it will help you tell a story. Another tip is shooting through something, by other words, a frame in a frame. This helps you by emphasizing the frame object. The viewers attention will be drawn to that object.
Another tip to bring creativity in your shots, is by playing with perspective. Shoot from the ground and make your subject look big and dominant or do it the other away around and make the viewer feel dominant by filming from a high perspective. Playing with your shutter can also be a good tip for a more special shot. When driving you can use a very slow shutter, this will give extra motion blur and the feeling of going really fast. Combine this with a time-lapse and you can show a great part of your trip in a short time.
