Create an Epic miniature devil look with a simple shutter and speed ramp effect in Adobe Premiere Pro. A unique music video effect inspired by Emperor’s New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco.

Aah it feels good now that Jordy is back here for Copy Cat Friday. I can tell you that it wasn’t the easiest task when he was sick last week. So I’m very happy that he is fully recovered and ready to star in our next Copy Cat. And guys, it’s going to be a big one! We just hit 400k subscribers and we thought to ourselves, “Let’s go all the way this week.” And ooh boy we did! We hired a make up artist and took our set design to the next level, so it would look extra cool and close the the original. Now you’re probably thinking, “What are you doing for Copy Cat?”. Well we are recreating the very awesome music video from Panic! At the disco – The Emperors Clothes. In this video you can see Brandon (the singer) transform into a demon. But what makes it so special is the look and camera movements.

When you are watching the music video you get the feeling that it was made like a stop motion. That was my first thought, however Jordy with all his experience told me I was wrong. They actually filmed everything with a high shutter speed. Another thing they did was making the actor move slower. That way it would be easier to focus pull and afterwards they sped everything up to emphasize the hard look even more. However at the end of the video, they have a slow-motion part and here they did the exact opposite. The actor moved faster and in post the slowed it down.

And taking about stop motion, I really love this style of filmmaking. It always amazes me how live like they can animate the figures. But what I love the most of all, is the set design and cinematography that come with these films. They create a new world from scratch and of course clay. And if you want to see a stop motion film, I could recommend Fantastic Mr Fox, Kubo and the 2 Strings and Coraline. Three great stop motion films that you should definitely see! And if you have the chance, go and watch Isle of Dogs. The new stop motion film from Wes Anderson, which is playing in the theaters now. I didn’t see it yet, but I’m going soon!
