It’s time for another Creative Tuesday and this week it’s quite a serious topic. We are going to talk about money. Sadly you need it to survive, otherwise you need to go hunting for food and that is that easy anymore. So how do you get money when you are a starting filmmaker? Well in this video we try to give you some tips to get your filmmaking career started. And if you already have a career in film, don’t worry there are also some tips for you.

My Personal Experience

Before I worked here at Cinecom, I had a difficult time finding a job in the sector I had a degree in. After my Master in Graphic Design I thought I would find work immediately. But I was wrong, nobody was hiring. And if they were, they wanted a graphic designer with experience. So after doing some internships and being unemployed, I decide to start on my own. I did this for a year in combination with working in a bar. And i must say this was a very educational period. I didn’t have that much clients, but from the ones I had I learned a lot.

Sadly after a few bad encounters with none paying clients I decided to stop and use my experience to find a steady job in a bureau. However in the meantime, while being self employed, I learned myself some filmmaking and motion design. I did this so I could widen my portfolio and had more chance while applying for a job. This really payed off, as Jordy saw something in my film skills and offered me the job at Cinecom. And this is a very good tip I can give you. It’s got to be specialized in something, but also try to have other skills. This will make you more versatile and will make it easier to find jobs.

But if I had known what I know now, making money as a self employed graphic designer  and filmmaker would be a lot easier. Definitely with the tips from Jordy in this video.
