7 Secrets to Amazing Story Telling

Jordy Vandeput 51K views

Do you suck at writing? These 7 tips and tricks will help you to write better stories and move your audience. Eric and I have been working on a short film scenario and in this tutorial he's sharing 7 secrets from his experience.

Hello guys, as you know a few weeks ago we did a sort of screenwriting contest. We all asked you to send in a scenario for a short movie and we would then film it with your help. After the many submissions, we had a hard time choosing but eventually found a great short story pitch and a great writer behind the story. Of course you already know who he is, because we introduced him to you in a reveal video. Now after a few meetings and brainstorms, we are finalizing the script and getting started to prepare for the shoot. But this is not all, we are also going to use this opportunity to teach you how to write your own short story. With the collaboration of Eric (the writer) we are going to give you some screenwriting tips.

Personally this is a first for me. I always wanted to make short movies, but I'm not the best story writer. So due to not having a good story I never made one. That's why I'm very excited to be finally making one together with Jordy, Lorenzo and Eric. We all know that Jordy has a lot of experience with making short movies, bad and good ones. And after hearing Eric speak, I'm absolutely sure this is going to be a very educational experience. Which will hopefully lead to more short movies and tutorials about them.

One tip that I already learned is that dialogue is very hard to make convincing. I would recommend to try to avoid it in your first short movie and only use it if it's really necessary. You'll need good actors, that can speak English fluently or the langue you want to use. If they don't speak it fluently, it will give the conversation a comedic touch. If this is want you want, perfect. But if you're making an action movie or a drama, it will wrong the atmosphere and maybe your movie. So be absolutely sure before you use conversations in your story.
