5 Photography Mistakes every Beginner Makes
Published on

In September I’ve been on a trip to Iceland, together with my girlfriend Kim. It was not the first time visiting the country. Last year I made a travel video, which was not only very fun to do but also very educational for myself. This year however, I decided to only take my photo camera with me and focus on landscape photography.
I’ll be honest; I have no experience in photography whatsoever. Being a filmmaker for more than 10 year definitely helps as most of its basics are the same. Technically I knew everything, but artistically and mostly pre-production wasn’t so easy.

Photography Mistakes
When searching online you’ll find many blog articles and YouTube videos about photography mistakes to avoid. These usually only cover the basics and obvious like ‘you should shoot in RAW!’. And although such tips are definitely useful to beginners, they usually don’t solve the bigger problems.
During my photography trip I’ve experienced many mistakes that I wish I knew about before. Things that weren’t so obvious and only made me realize I was wrong after a couple of days or even when I got back home and saw my photos for the first time on a big screen.
Landscape photography is an art and it takes a lot of preparation, practice and patients to get right. In the video above I’m sharing 10 of the mistakes that I ran into during my trip.
