We are back with another Copy Cat Friday. And if you didn’t saw the Creative Tuesday from this week, Jordy is also back from his trip. So we are at full strength again and are ready to be creative. And this week we are doing a video about an Artist on the rise and one I really love to listen to. I’m taking about Billie Eilish and her new music video “When the party is over”. In this video you see how she drinks a black fluid and then cries black tears through out the entire video. Well we are going to show you how you can recreate this effect purely in After Effects.
This effect is partially done with practical effect and with visual effects. And it’s all quite easy if I say it myself. It’s a simple transparent tube that comes from your hair and goes to your eyes. Then you let some fluids flow through it and that were the practical effects. Then in Post production you can use the Clone Stamp tool to hide you tube. Use this in combination with the tracking from After Effects and you got yourself a super cool colored tear effect. Which is also super easy and only needs After Effects for it.
Personally I’m a fan of practical effects as it makes things more real. They could have done this effect with 3D simulations of the tears. But now the tears interact with her clothes and with her hands touching her face. This would be very hard to recreate in 3D.
