Create the Delorean Car Effects from Back to the Future in After Effects
Published on

Wait a minute, Doc. It’s Friday and that means a brand new Copy Cat Friday!
It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, everybody knows this ICONIC movie! It’s so iconic you should be ashamed if you haven’t watched it yet. So for those who didn’t, go watch it right now and then come back for our video.

In this tutorial we are recreating (in my eyes) the most memorable effect of the movie. That’s right the Delorean going to the future!
There are already a lot of good tutorials out there about this effect so that’s why we wanted to do it a little bit different. Instead of doing everything inside Adobe After Effects we chose for a mix of practical effects and visual effects. We show you how to create the big white flash in front of the car and the fire under the car practical so you just have to blend it on your clip. The spark flying and the explosion we’ll do inside of After Effects.
Personally I prefer to do as much as possible practical. It’s easier, faster and best of all it looks more realistic. Besides that it’s also a lot of fun to experiment and try to get the effect right. So next time that you are making an effect try to do it practical and have fun!
