Welcome to another Cop Cat Friday and today we are doing an music video that was requested by several of you guys. It’s an somewhat older music video clip from Why don’t we, named 8 Letters. And in this video you can see multiple scenes where objects like rocks, glass or paper floats in the sky. But what we find the coolest effect from the video is the paper tornado in the church. Of course these papers aren’t real and are all done in post production. Likely they were created from scratch in a 3D program. Well we are not that skilled to create it from scratch. So we are going to do it in After Effects.
Like I said before, you can see different 3D elements float in the shots. But are easily recreated without using 3D, which we explain in this cool video about 3D tracking. However in one shot you see a trashed room, where some objects like a chair seems to freeze mid falling. This is all done with practical set building and can really elevate your production. Personally we also notice that a realistic set makes your project more professional and more fun to work in. Of course building sets can be expensive, but much can be accomplished with some creativity. Or you can also look for existing places like a real church and try to convince the owners to let you film there. Most of the times if you ask them in a friendly manner and explain what you are going to do, they will say yes.
