Learn how to pull a clean chroma/green key in Adobe Premiere Pro. See the options of the Ultra Key effect to achieve a professional result.

Remember the last film you saw? Or watched the weather forecast? Chances are it was full of green screens. This is a very popular technique, because it has amazing possibilities to create shots that are normally impossible. With just a green screen and a camera you can place yourself in any environment or background you want.

But how do they create this effect with such precision? Normally you turn to Adobe After Effects for Green keying, due to it’s many options. However it’s also possible to achieve the same effect in Premiere Pro with the added bonus of faster performance. In this tutorial we explain how to use the ultra key tool in Premiere Pro to achieve a clean green key look and refine it. These tips and tricks are the perfect start for fully understanding the green key technique and create wonderful videos.

However before you can get a clean key, you need some good green screen footage. This all starts with your green key setup. Good lighting is a very important factor in your setup and can make your post production much easier. From our own experience building a permanent green screen studio, we can say it’s a lot of trial and error before you find the perfect setup. But once your setup is complete you can start creating everything imaginable.
