Color Grading 4 Oscar Nominations in Premiere pro

Color Grading, Oscar awards, premiere pro

This time we are doing something special for Copy Cat Friday. You all probably know that the Oscar nominees are chosen and some of them are great films. We didn’t saw them all, but they are noted on our to watch list. Now we had the great idea to take 4 Oscar nominees and explain how they were color graded. We show you how to create the same cinematic feeling and look of Bladerunner 2049, Darkest Hour, Shape of Water and Dunkrik. We also have something very special for you, we present a Free Lut pack of these 4 Oscar nominations.

Personally I learned a lot from this Copy Cat Friday. When I do the color grading from our YouTube tutorials, I just do a simple basic Teal and Orange. But after analyzing and recreating the color gradings of the Oscar nominees, I learned you can do so much more with so little adjustments. Sometimes a little extra green or less saturation can really empathize the mood of a shot and bring it all to life.

For the Darkest Hour, Shape of water and Bladerunner 2049 we also recreated a scene from the movie so we could exactly show you a correct color grading. And of course it’s also fun to recreate movies! This meant dressing up like Winston Churchill or officer K from Bladerunner 2049. But we also copied the light setups as much as we could. And you almost can’t see any difference, though I say it myself. For Dunkrik we did something else, we don’t have army uniforms and specially not from WO II. But with Christmas 2016 we made an army themed short movie, so we decided to use that footage as our example for color grading like Dunkirk.
