Doctor Strange Multiverse
Doctor Strange is back and he is bringing multiple Multiverses. In the latest Spiderman we already got a glimpse of what a multiverse could bring to the table. We got 3 different Spider-mans in one movie, helping each other fight a band of villains. How cool was that.

But you can imagine that a movie especially dedicated to Doctor Strange and Multiverses, can bring some crazy stuff with it. From weird plot twists to even crazier special effects. Which is perfect for us, giving us a whole list to choose from. But like you can guess, the face splitting into cubes really caught our eye. So we had no other choice than to recreate it.
3D Multiverse Model
Now when doing such a complex effect of a cubical splitting face, we of course need to do it all in a 3D. But for this we need a good model of our own face. There are a ton of good 3D scanner apps, which you can use with your phone. They deliver good results, but sometimes they lack a good texture quality.
That’s why we decide to use a different technique, where we can get a high texture straight on our model. We are going to use the RealityCapture software in combination with a whole bunch of high resolution photos of our own head. Giving us a really good model and at the same time high quality textures. And once we have our 3D model it was only a matter of doing some special effects on it.
Storyblocks
Big thanks to Storyblocks for the support on this video. Their community driven library always help us to find something perfect for that particular VFX shot. They really help us to bring our Visual effects to life, without compromising on anything.
