advanced moving xray
Recently j-hope released a new music video which is full of effects. But there is one effect that caught our eye in particular. At a certain moment we get introduced to a hospital room. And in that room we can see a moving X-ray shot.

The X-ray effect isn’t new at all, it has been used for years! But they did however give it a twist by adding movement to it.
Practical skull
The original effect they achieved by first of all recording the talent singing. After this they added a 3D skull and animated it so it would follow along the talents movement. Once this was done they added both layers on top of each other, changed the colors to that typical x-ray look and blended both together.
We however wanted to do it without any 3D and found a pretty good alternative. Everything stays the same, the only thing that’s different is the 3D skull. We got ourselves a full head mask of a skull. When you’re looking for one make sure you find something that has a moveable jaw. Otherwise the effect wont work. Than with the mask on we recorded ourselves doing the exact same movement again. And those two clips should match pretty good.
