Color Grading Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Bohemiuan Rhapsody and Roma in Adobe Premiere Pro using Lumetri. In this tutorial video we’re recreating the film look of 3 Oscar nominated films in terms of lighting and colors.

Welcome back to another Copy Cat Friday. And you know what time it is? It is time to recreate something from the Oscars. Like last year we thought to do something around color grading. Back then we showed your how you can create the same look as the Darkest Hour, Shape of Water, Dunkirk and Bladerunner 2049. Four awesome movies with very distinctive color grading. Well we decided to do the same with this years nominees.

And I want to talk about this years nominees for best picture. In this list you’ll find movies such as Roma, BlacKkKlansman or Bohemian Rhapsody. All movies that tell a deep story about racial issues or history.  Something you expect from an Oscar selected movie. But personally there is one weird movie in the best picture list, Black Panther. Now I’m not a DC fan nor a Marvel fan. They all make good movies, which are fun to watch and full of action. But personally I think they do not belong between the Best picture nominees. I even find Black Panther one of the baddest Marvel movies in recent years. I get the feeling with this movie, that it was made in a hurry because they had to for the next Avenger movie. Otherwise there would be holes in the story and some things wouldn’t make any sense. And maybe it’s me, but I don’t think Black Panther deserves the nomination for best picture.

In this tutorial video we’ll be recreating the lighting and color grading look of Roma, Ballad of Buster Scruggs and Bohemiuan Rhapsody. You can learn so much from recreating scenes as you analyze the different scenes and try to figure out where they placed the lights. Most films schools also give the exact same projects.
