How we Edited Ourselves in Home Alone

Last week we published our Christmas Special, which is full with visual effects. So that’s why we decided to make a breakdown video. The initial idea behind the video was to work with deepfaking, a technique in which you can swap someones face using an AI software. And although it works great, in reality it brings some complications.
That’s why we decided to work with various techniques to blend ourselves into the film.
Sound Design
Chris Ume did all of the deepfake visuals for us, so we where mostly left with the sound design. Due to copyright issues you cannot use music from another source, so we had to strip down the audio track including the sound effects.
Yup, this was a lot of work. Every single sound had to be recorded and mixed into the video. To save us time, we mostly searched on Storyblocks Audio. But for some specific sounds and of course our voices we had to record them separate.
Lorenzo, who did the sound design told me how much he learned doing so. He used the film’s audio track as a reference. What got our attention the most was how subtle the music was. Often a short piece or piano or cello.
